I was walking through the mall the other day and passed by this restaurant, which had the most beautifully decorated glass tables. I couldn’t help but stop and take some pictures. (Sorry for the poor quality and the light reflections in the pictures; I only had my phone with me.)
I love how they used a combination of sweet treats and flowers in eye catching color themes that just grab your attention. They are beautiful, uniform and different from the average tacky restaurant tables you find in most malls today.
But these tables got my creative juices flowing and I got to thinking about how this could be incorporated at home. This technique is such a simple thing to do yet is very effective in making a table in your home just a little more special and unique. The great thing about using this type of décor in your home is that it is personal to your tastes and you can really make it your own. You can use flowers, sweets, shells, rocks, buttons, maps or any other items that you like. You have a lot of creative freedom but it isn’t permanent and can therefore be changed if you get bored of it or change your style. This factor is always a good thing to have when decorating.
When I got my first apartment, I bought the Liatorp coffee table from IKEA with this exact idea in mind. I wanted to use this glass table with the draw compartments to add a splash of color to my neutral living room. This table is great because it has 4 deep compartments and is also a good size coffee table.
And since I am a self-professed candy lover and I love the colors candy comes in I wanted to fill my coffee table with candy. This way every day when I walk into my living room it would bring a smile to my face seeing one of my favorite things. I chose to select a variety of different candy’s because I thought it would make it more fun and interesting, and because when I have guests over, they will have fun looking around the table to see if they can find their favorite candy. It’s a great conversation starter!
The way I chose to display the candy was in silver foil cupcake cases which are white inside, so that from a distance you can’t see the cases and the colors pop against the white. Also the cupcake cases keep the sweets neat and organized and added a different dynamic to the décor than if they were all lose in the drawer.
I created my own piece of art that is unique to my style… how fun is that? Now I just need to make sure I don’t end of eating my décor!
