London is full of places to go for tea and coffees, but one of my absolute favorite places to go is this small teahouse/café called Amanzi Tea in Marylebone. This little café opened in Feb. 2013, but has already become quite popular and a regular haunt for residents and people in the surrounding Marylebone area.
What makes this tea place so unique in my opinion is the coziness and warmth you get when you walk in. It’s a great place where you can go and meet friends, have a coffee date, meeting, or simply do your work. Since it’s not a chain like the other tea/coffee giants on the high street, Amanzi Tea has a more welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, as well as nice neighborhood feel. I have on many occasions spent hours there talking to friends or just catching up on reading.
Unlike the high street chain stores, Amanzi Tea has an extensive and varied menu of teas, tea based drinks, and coffees. You can get anything from a regular English breakfast to a Green Matcha latte to a Passion fruit bubble tea to different flavored iced teas. Every time I walk in I always end up standing and looking at the menu board looking at all the options (even though I already know the menu) trying to decide what to get and what tickles my fancy that day. There is literally something for everyone and their individual tastes and likes. And it is for this reason that I do love going to this place over others, as I am spoilt for choice and can try new flavors in a lovely setting.
Also they have a number of different snack options that you can enjoy with your drink. What I love is that they offer some of the heather products like Bounce protein balls, popcorn and rice cakes. That being said sometimes you need a sweet treat and I am happy to say they now sell macarons, both large and small and this just makes Amanzi Tea even better in my opinion! Another thing I appreciate about what they sell food wise is that there are a number of options for people who are gluten intolerant, like me. It’s so difficult these days to go to coffee shops and find something I am actually able to eat, so the fact that they do at Amanzi Tea is really helpful and means I can have a tea and a nice tasting snack alongside.
A neat décor feature they have is that along one wall of the shop are these cylinders containing the different varieties of teas they sell and use in their drinks. They are all loose leaf and you can actually buy them to take home as well. What is really cool is that under each cylinder they have a small metal tin attached to the wall with a magnet, each of which contains small samples of the loose-leaf tea. Why I think this is great is because you can open the tin and smell the tea as well as see the different ingredients in it. It’s a great way to see if you will like the tea flavor or not. Also it’s cool to see how the ingredients combined in different ways can really change the smell and flavor of the tea. Anyway, I may be the only one, but I think this is a very cool interactive feature to Amanzi Tea’s shop.
So what did I get on my last visit to Amanzi Tea? I got my absolutely favorite drink, the Lychee martini. Now before you go thinking that it has alcohol in it or anything, it doesn’t. It is one of their non-alcoholic tea based cocktails, which are delicious! The lychee one is the best though, and all my friends agree, since you have the light sweet taste from the lychee flavor and then at the bottom are these lychee flavored bursting bubbles that add another texture to the drink. They are a lovely surprise at the bottom, that when you take a sip and get one of the bubbles it’s an explosion of extra lychee flavor in your mouth. As I said, best drink there!
Anyway if you are ever in the area around Marylebone High Street in London go check out Amanzi Tea, it’s definitely worth a visit!
