At the moment in my life a new week means more traveling and another country. Don’t get me wrong I am definitely not complaining and am actually having a lot of fun exploring different cities even more. Last week’s destination was one I have been to at the beginning of the year, Zurich in Switzerland.
In my last post about Zurich (found here) I talked about the city in general and the about how beautiful the city was. And let me tell you, now that it’s starting to warm up it is becoming even better and more beautiful. It is one of those special cities that just gets better in the Spring and Summer, kind of like Paris (although Paris will always have a special place in my heart that cannot be taken).
On this trip however I was able to go to some really cool restaurants that I can highly recommend and want to share with you. Here they are:
The Dolder Grand Hotel is the nicest hotel in Zurich, and it’s the beautiful 5-star hotel sitting high on the hill overlooking the whole city and the lake. It was a beautiful warm sunny afternoon and my friend and I enjoyed a relaxing champagne lunch with that stunning view next to us.
My friend had a upscale caeser salad with these amazing coconut coated shrimps (instead of breadcrumbs), and I had a salad with elderberry vinaigrette, red radishes, avocado, sunflower seeds. Both were absolutely delicious and were enjoyed with a refreshing glass of champagne. Definitely a place worth a visit while in Zurich!

Another place I went was the Terrace at Baur au Lac, which is another luxury 5-star hotel located in the center of the city, a 5 min walk from the lake and the shopping street Bahnhofstrasse. It was actually the first day the terrace was open this year for the spring/summer season.
I didn’t actually have a full meal here, but I am sure if I had it would have been spectacular. The food menu had some very mouth watering items, however I was just there for coffee and a snack while soaking up the warm sun and doing a bit of reading.
I ordered my coffee and the waiter asked if I wanted something sweet with it. The problem is that at these kinds of places, while delicious, the sweet snacks tend not to be super healthy and are a luxury in themselves. However, the waiter suggested the bowl of fresh berries, which sounded good to me. And oh my goodness it was amazing! It was a bowl full of the most delicious and fresh tasting blueberries, strawberries and raspberries. You could tell that they had taken great care in selecting the very best berries from the bunch. It was a perfect snack to have in the sun that was not only filling but very healthy too, which is always an added bonus!
I finished off my little visit with what I think is the best-tasting Bellini I have ever had. I know they use the fresh peach puree but something about the ingredients they use and how they prepare it elevates this classic drink to the next level.
What I like about this place is that it was almost like a little garden oasis in the middle of the city. It was so green and felt like you were just sitting in a large backyard at home, which was really comforting. Definitely somewhere I will go back to, and maybe next time I’ll actually have a meal there!

I mentioned Sprüngli in my previous posts on Zurich because of the mini-macarons they sell called Luxemburgerlis (previous post found here). This time I went there for another one of my coffee breaks. It’s a Zurich institution and in the flagship store on the Bahnhofstrasse they have a café and restaurant so that you can enjoy a break and some of the yummy treats.
This time I decided to forgo my normal latte and rather try their classic hot chocolate. I thought that since it’s a place that is known for its high quality chocolate, that the hot chocolate drink would be a proper one made with real dark chocolate. It was of course delicious and was the perfect blend of sweet and bitter, which was good as it therefore wasn’t too sickly.
And of course, on my way out I couldn’t help but pick up a couple of the little Luxemburgerli’s for on the go.

When I saw that Ladurée had a location in Zurich, it was an absolute must that I pay a little visit and pick up some of these delectable treats. My favourite flavours they sell are Orange Blossom, Strawberry Marshmallow, Marie Antoinette and Vanilla. So I picked up these plus two new flavors for Spring/Easter, which are Lemon with Verbena and Chocolate Coconut.
It also gave me a chance to buy one of their baby blue boxes with the multi-colored gems on it. It’s one I have wanted to get since I saw it released. It’s a great little pretty box for storing things like jewelry, etc.

The final restaurant that I highly recommend is Restaurant Bäerengasse, which is this fancy American steakhouse type restaurant in the heart of Zurich. This place is found on one of the side streets intersecting with Bahnofstrasse. Its one of those places frequented by businessmen and women, and where they can easily have meetings over delicious food in a relaxed and comfortable environment for lunch and that turns becomes a great place for a nice relaxed night on the town for dinner.
Even though it was a steakhouse, I still had this craving for salad and therefore indulged in a Goats Cheese au Gratin on a bed of leaves with walnuts, honey, raspberries, and raspberry-dressing, with a side of these amazing mini thin fries called “Pommes Allumettes”. I was in food heaven and was loving every bite! While I went for the salad, my friend had a beautifully cooked piece of beef tenderloin with peppercorn sauce. It too looked delicious and might be something I will try next time, since of course there will be a next time!
Overall a great restaurant for lunch or dinner, with excellent food that is also reasonably priced.

There are so many places left to still visit in Zurich but for now its time to head back home again and await my next adventure!
